Grocery Innovation Canada 2017 Allowing Indonesia’s Products To Be Recognized by Canadian Market


ITPC Vancouver participated in Grocery Innovation Canada (GIC) 2017, premier grocery and specialty food show on October 23-24, 2017 at Toronto Congress Center, Ontario as an effort to penetrate and promote Indonesia’s potential grocery products in the Canadian market.

Products exhibited were among others gourmet, artisans, organic, wellness and related products including packaging, equipment, technology, food services etc. Five hundred booths representing more than 800 companies were present to offer their products. Indonesia’s booth stood in 400 square foot presenting its best products to Canadian food industry, wholesalers, retailers, and consumers. The following are exhibitors’ brief profile and their signature products:

  • Vancouver based company Nusa Coffee brings its premium organic coffee products from Sumatera Gayo, Flores Bajawa, Sulawesi Toraja, Bali Kintamani and Java to Canada. Coffee beans are acquired directly from farmers in Indonesia. Recently, Nusa Coffee is expanding its business in Toronto. e: /
  • Inspired by the richness and varieties of Indonesian spices, BKAYA offers Indonesian organic spices and herbs. BKAYA’s signature product is moringa leaf with numerous health benefits which now becomes a hit product in the North American market. e:
  • VITIC Enterprise imports notable Indonesian foods, beverages and commodities including highly demanded products in Canadian market namely organic and non-organic coconut oil and coconut sugar. e:
  • Jan’s Food is Los Angeles based company established since 1988. The success in US’ market decided Jan’s to penetrate that of Canada. Its top products are tropical fruit juice, chips (organic sweet potato chips, mixed roots chips, etc) and dairy products (condensed milk, pudding, etc). e: /
  • Indofood Canada introduced world’s top selling noodle Indomie Mi Goreng which can be found in many famous supermarkets and retailers across Canada. Other Indofood product lines include seasonings, chips, biscuits and sambal sauce into the Canadian market. /

Grocery market is one of the largest food sale segments around the world. Canadian grocery market is a promising and profitable business despite high competition. Total value in 2016 reached CAD 145 billion or grew 3% and the number tends to grow year to year. GIC 2017 two-day-exhibition led to a highly potential transactions allowing Indonesian products to be recognized by Canadian market and consequently open to wider opportunities.
